Béla Bartók–Suite for Piano: I. Allegretto

for orchestra (2018) | Recording: American Youth Symphony; Paolo Bortolameolli, conductor

Suite for Piano was written by Béla Bartók in February 1916. On the origin of the thematic material of the work, he commented, “The Suite op. 14 has no folk tunes. It is based entirely on original themes of my own invention.” The first movement of this work was orchestrated for the American Youth Symphony as part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Nancy and Barry Sanders Composer Fellowship Program.
