Scream Louder

for sinfonietta (2018) | Premiere: Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra

Scream Louder was premiered in the spring of 2018 in Los Angeles by members of the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra as part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Nancy and Barry Sanders Composer Fellowship Program. The work is a response to the following poem by Russian poet Anna Akhmatova:

Now nobody will start to listen to songs.                               The foretold days have come.                                                  My last song, the world is no longer marvelous,                Don’t tear my heart, don’t ring.

Until recently, as a free swallow                                             You completed your morning flight,                                       And now you will become a hungry beggar;                        Your knocking won’t get through at strangers’ gates.
